IZombie (TV Series 2015 – )

izombie-posterrrOlivia Moore – The savvy zombie/medical examiner/psychic who with her boss – Ravi (Rahul Kohli) is trying to help cure zombie-ism so she can live a normal life.

I was very unsure about watching this series first – I don’t generally like zombie films let alone TV series. However I don’t find this as gross or scary ass others I’ve attempted to watch. There’s a sense of comedy withing the show and I was still on the edge whilst watching series 1 but come series 2 I was loving it. Now that I’ve seen the series 2 finale I can’t wait for series 3 to come out… I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

I love how Rose McIver (Olivia Moore) is able to change persona so effortlessly for each characters brain she ends up eating to stay functional and to help find clues for detective Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin).

It’s¬†rather exciting when another zombie was introduced to the show and eager to find out their personality and the reason they are there.

I absolutely adore Ravi who reminds me of a puppy… excitable, eager and sometimes terrified.

If you’re not a huge scary zombie lover but want to ease into it id start with IZombie, it does gradually get violent and bloody but the worst it in season 2 and you’ll know what I mean if you manage to finish the show.

The only issue I had with the whole series is the animation for when their zombies go “full on zombie” it’s not brilliant and I think it could be better but hey ho it’s not like it happens that often.

Overall I rate this TV series 4.5 out of 5 Stars!

Quick week summery and random thoughts

So I’m terribly sorry about the lack of postage this week but I had an interview earlier in the week and spent the remainder of the week failing hard at my diet and impatiently waiting to hear the news (FYI my temp contract has been extended with possibilities of becoming permanent  ūüôÉ)

In movie news…

I’m very much looking forward to dead pool coming out in Feb, me and my partner will be going to the cinema on Valentine’s Day to watch this ūüėć

Dirty grandpa looks hilarious and is a defiant film that I’m going to watch no doubt about it.

There are quiet a lot of comic films coming out over the next up and. Ominous years which is quite exciting such as the suicide squad and th flash to name a couple. Quick thought: will they stick with the same to series cast for the movie the flash or will they get all new characters, I personally feel that new characters would take away from the flash series we have all come to know and love and it might be a good idea to stick with the same casting, similar to how the same people play the same characters throughout marvel to series and films.. From what I’ve seen/noticed anyhow.

I have finally got around to watching the last episode of scream queens, and at first when I began to watch the series I was quite disappointed to hear that a second series may not be happening due to lack of views. However now that I’ve watch the final episode, which is great by the way and I still think it’s a great series… I’m just unsure as to how they could build onto it from that final episode and how they would make it work.

Next week will be back to normal – I think.  I’ve just seen ride along 2 so watch out for that revue soon! Since I’m no long stressing over interview and job prospects I’ve been able to get back into my evening hobbies.

Please don’t hesitate to comment below and let me know of any good films you’ve been watching recently!

Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (Tv Series 2016-present)Vs The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)

mv5bmtaxotaxmdmxmtzeqtjeqwpwz15bbwu4mduzota4ntcx-_v1_sx214_al_A new Netflix series has emerged from the book series ” The Mortal Instruments”, this new series is called “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” the first episode has been released and I took up the chance to watch it and i thought it was pretty awesome to be quite honest. After watching the first episode and realizing that i’m going to have to wait until next week to watch the 2nd episode I thought that I would actually ¬†watch the movie seems as I had never gotten round to it before.

Firstly I would like to say that no, I have not read the books so I do not know which one portrays the book more accurately than the other, however I will say that from watching the 1st episode I prefer the netflix series straight up.

mv5bmtc5nzayotqynf5bml5banbnxkftztcwnzq1mdc4oq-_v1_sx214_al_The film has some pretty shabby acting to start with and to be quite frank it doesn’t get that much better throughout the film. The acting seemed forced, it didn’t seem natural at all, it all reminded me of the first twilight movie (I can’t comment on the rest because i dare not watch them) not in the story line, but how the lines seemed to come off robotic and with barely any emotion. The best actor I think throughout the film was from Robert Sheehan who plays Simon, I think he did really well, but as the for others it was quite appalling.

I felt that Clary was a bit too timid in the film I imagine Clary to be brave as Jace continues to say, but to me she just seemed scared, which to be fair given the circumstanced I don’t blame her…

Since it is based on a book that they had to try and fit as much as possible into a what 1hr 30min – 2hrs… its not going to turn out as great, which is probably why they didn’t continues to make the other books into films…

Now! onto the netflix series!!

I feel that given it’s their 2nd time round at the books series that¬†they wanted to perfect it. The actors are all brilliant so far for their parts, Katherine McNamara (Clary Fray) was a great choice. I do wish they kept a similar look for Jace as the film but the make over will do.
One thing I do like is that Clary’s family have similar accents, not really sure what happened in the movie but it was weird.

I’m a but confused about who Luke is supposed to be though after watching the film, since in the film he is a werewolf but in the tv series, i don’t know, is he a shadow hunter?

I like how they portrayed Dot in their lives it seems so much better and normal. The demons also look a lot better in the series rather than the film.

I’m really interested on how much more the series is going to be different compared to the movie and what their going to do with it seems as it is 40mins per episode, they have a lot of time to play with and about 4 books to go through.

I’m¬†defiantly going to be continuing watching the Netflix series and see where it goes.

Compared to the movie I give this series so far 5 stars out of 5!¬†If you didn’t think much of the film like me I strongly suggest you try watching the tv series.

Daddy’s Home (2015)

I’m always a bit weary of Will¬†Ferrell, I don’t always find his humor funny for example step brothers really wasn’t my cup of tea. After seeing the trailer for this movie though and watching Will Ferrell and Mark on various talk shows I thought this film is going to be pretty good. Boy was I right, I went to watch this with some friends and the whole cinema was laughing with us, obviously not throughout the whole thing but at the funny bits dotted throughout, the lady say next to me seemed to love the film!

I enjoyed how this could be a a fun family comedy and this comedy suits Will Ferrell and I would love to see him in move movies like this.

I feel like most step dads feel the same as Brad (Will Ferrell) with or without the biological father in their lives, it can be a pretty stressful role to show authority but to win over their trust and affection.  Being raised by my single mother for 12 yards when we moved into a new house with her new fella and when she married him I admit I was terrible. I can see quiet a few parents being able to relate to this film.

The things that Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) does to try and win his ex wife back and the reactions from Brad are great, their is great pleasure watching Brad try to become “cool” and how horribly he fails and looses his cool all the same.

Overall I will give this film 4 stars out of 5! A film that I would watch with family and have a good giggle over.

Ask Me Anything (2014)

mv5bmtkxmjm0ndgzmf5bml5banbnxkftztgwndu3nzy3mze-_v1_uy268_cr90182268_al_I chose this film purely because i was bored whilst flicking through Netflix trying to find anything interesting to watch when I stumbled upon ask me anything. I thought it might be ok, girl in her late teens about to go to college starts a blog about her sex life, pretty simple. It is based on a novel by Allison Burnett which she also directed.

It’s basically about a girl in her late teens who is a bit of a bitch and a whore. She cheats on her boyfriend which older men, could really be nicer towards her soon-to-be step dad (but this is probably an accurate portrayal as to how a teenage girl reacts to a new stepdad going by my experience.) she is advised to start writing a blog after being undecided as to what to do with her life after choosing not to go to college. ¬†The film is narrated by her reading her blog, chaotic things happen in her life which I do find to be rather unrealistic baring in mind this girl is roughly about 18 years of age. I do unrest and how throughout the film you realise why the character of Katie behaves the way she does and it is not a nice thing to happen to anyone and you do empathise with her character and even though I said i find it unrealistic I’m not saying that these events do not happen in real life, just that it seems unlikely that all of these things happen. However we are watching/reading her blog which may or may it be made up it created in her mind which you do find out later on in the film.

There is a bit of a twist at the end of the film which I thought was a good idea and really brought the whole thing together, you realise that the film has been shown to you as if you were reading the book and imagining these glamorous looking characters when in fact they are not, they are regular people.

I did think Britt Robertson was a good choice for Katie but Max Carver did not play Rory well at all, I feel that it was pretty shoddy acting work on his part.

I would give this film about 2.5 stars out of 5, My personal opinion is that I just didn’t really enjoy the story line, especially with this being an 18 year old it did seem a bit far fetched, ¬†but as I mentioned earlier – how much is real and what was a figment of her imagination…

Jessica Jones (Tv Series 2015 – Current)

MV5BMTcwMzM3NTE5NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjUwNDkwNzE@._V1_UY268_CR2,0,182,268_AL_I haven’t read any marvel comics or do for that matter, it wasn’t something I was aware about as a child so I didn’t grow up with it. I started getting into marvel and Dec films when the new films came out such as Thor, the avengers and so on it was something my partner really introduced me to and now I’m all over the arrow and the flash series, I watch all the new marvel and DC films, I really have the bug for them. However I do not have the background knowledge of the comics to compare them to which may or may not be a good thing. I feel that those who have and do read the comics are probably disappointed with the movies as they maybe inaccurate and miss major parts out, that’s how I felt when I watched the lucky one after I read the book by Nicholas Sparks in particular.

When I started watching the Netflix series of Jessica Jones I didn’t know what to expect, it isn’t a marvel hero I’ve heard of, I didn’t know who she was or what her abilities were. I think Krysten Ritter was a fantastic actress to play Jessica, she played the party really week and just has that badass feel about her, David Tennant was also a great choice for Kilgrave¬†there were parts of the series where I actually felt sorry for him and wanted Jessica to just go back and help him, I think that’s a good talent to have, to be able to be a bad guy, portray him¬†as a bad guy but to still have the audience be sympathetic of him, he is a talented actor.

I really liked how from the first episode you are aware that there is something different, special about Jessica but it isn’t obvious at first, it doesn’t just jump into what her abilities are or why she has them you learn as you watch the series and I thought that was a nice touch.

I was disappointed by what they did with Will Simpson at¬†the end of series 1, I felt that it was a bit over kill and wasn’t necessary, but then again this may be accurate by the comic, I don’t know.

I realize that I’m comparing Jessica Jones whichis marvel over DC to series however I liked how Jessica Jones focuses on one theme throughout series 1 – to eliminate Kilgrave. Compared to DC which the arrow and the flash where each episode can have a different theme, more so the flash than the arrow. I realize they have one basic theme throughout such as their lives and one common goal, but the bad guys end up changing in each episode, this didn’t happen in Jessica Jones and it made the series more enjoyable.

I’m not normally a big fan of series where each episode is about 40-50 mins long, I tend to get board by them. However when it comes to marvel and DC shows I am able to enjoy the series and that’s how I felt with Jessica Jones, the series was enjoyable and I’m looking forward for series 2 to be released.

I would rate the series so far based on series 1 as 4 stars out of 5, over all a good interesting series, but there were parts that maybe weren’t necessary or over kill. This is expected in a series, you can’t please everyone all the way through.

My Top Rated Films From 2015

So I though I would see what films I gave a whooping 5 out of 5 star rating during 2015. I believe that all of the films were released during 2015 in the UK. Due to my lack of posting during the last year there are only ¬†3 films, but fear not as I’m coming back into 2016 it’s lots of reviews!!!

Let’s take a look.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

So the first film given 5 stars was ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ which I though ¬†was an excellent film and I would defiantly¬†¬†watch this again. This is a decent British action film with some comedy thrown in their . The basic story line of the film is that a young London lad – Eggsy played by Taron Egerton comes from a rough family and is invited to join a secret service where’d he becomes more like a gentlemen secret agent with the the help of Harry Hart (Colin firth.) ¬†I have heard that a sequel will be made which I’m quit excited about

The second film of the year was ‘Spy’ where Melissa McCarthy succeeds in being hilarious again. With lots of big named actors from Jason Statham to Jude Law they bring a lot character to the film

Susan played by Melissa McCarthy plays a big part behind the scenes in Bradley Fines (Jude law) career but she longs to be in the spot light and when an opportunity arises she jumps at the chance but with Rick Ford ( Jason Statham) disapproving of her involvement in being an agent will he try to screw up the mission?

Finally the third film of the year to be given 5 stars is Legend. The fantastic skills of Tom Hardy are shown extremely well in the well through out film.

Legend is based on the life of London twin gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Krey. I feel that this film did a good job to not glamourize  the twins as such previous films have done, however just showed the realness of their lives. I do like how the story is not told by the twins but is actually told by Frances Shea ( Emily Browning).
